HELLO. WE’RE STELLATIA.

In the US alone, 1 million people are legally blind, significantly impacting their ability to lead their lives. Thanks to technology today, four young individuals were able to create an Android application that guides the visually impaired to wherever they need to go.

WHAT DOES STELLATIA DO?

Stellatia is a navigation app for the visually impaired. Fully accessible with voice commands, Stellatia guides users to their destination, using computer vision to identify and warn users of potential hazards in their way. For the purposes of PennApps, Stellatia is specifically targeted at navigating to Capital One ATM and bank branches, using the Capital One API. It also has the added capability of identifying denominations of US currency, which can be difficult for the visually impaired.

HELPS THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED FEEL MORE INDEPENDENT AND ABLE TO WALK WHEREVER THEY DESIRE TO WITHOUT NEEDING THE HELP OF ANOTHER PERSON.

ALLOWS THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED TO BE MORE UP-TO-DATE WITH TECHNOLOGY AND BE MORE INTEGRATED WITH THE RAPIDLY TECHNOLOGICAL SOCIETY.

USES COMPUTER VISION TO READ ANY DENOMINATION THAT IT'S SHOWN. WHETHER IT BE AT A COFFEE SHOP, GOING SHOPPING, OR SIMPLY JUST WANTING TO KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE, STELLATIA MAKES IT POSSIBLE

WEB DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO

Through the creative use of graphic design, digital technology, and online strategy, we solve problems and develop opportunities that help place our clients ahead of their competition. By taking the time to really understand the vision and requirements of our clients, we’re able to deliver results that truly make an impact. Take a look at our portfolio of projects below to get a feel for our work.

NAME INSPIRATION

Stellatia is a name inspired from many sources. For centuries, explorers sailed through the night in uncharted seas using only the constellations plastered in the sky as their guide. Similarly, we hope our app guides the visually impaired to wherever they need to go, making their journey safe and empowering them to lead independent lives.

Our second source of name inspiration comes from our integration of Capital One's API. The first coins struck under the authority of the United States of America were called the Nova Constellatio coins. Emblazoned with an eye surrounded by stars, we felt that these coins were rife with symbolism relevant towards our app's goal. The engraving on these coins is the inspiration for our logo.

HOW IT WAS CREATED

With hard work, passion, and drive, Stellatia was created by four hard-working college students. Stellatia is built using Android Studio. Github and Git were used for collaboration by the team members during the coding process. Google Cloud and Capital One API's are used for navigation. Thanks to the team's hard work, the visually impaired will now be able to live a simpler day-to-day life.

Nikhil Avadhani, Jaylynn Cardona, Matthew Hallac, and Justin Mickus are the four innovators that make up Stellatia. It all began on September 6, 2019 at PennApps in a small apartment. Coming from the University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, UC Berkeley, and Purdue University, they used their skills, knowledge, and passion to create Stellatia. Inspired by Jaylynn's experience with working in a nursing home and seeing the visually impaired's day to day struggle, they were inspired to help those in need. Thus, Stellatia was born.
